The Hoshen 2020-2021

“The Hoshen” is a series of intricate pencil drawings of various gemstones, inspired by the High Priest’s traditional breastplate, worn while serving at the Jewish Holy Temple. As an artist, I am fascinated by the connection between holiness and prestige, and how these concepts are embodied in both material and form. According to Jewish tradition, each stone in the Hoshen represents a different tribe of Israel.

Additionally, this series explores the economic value associated with the practices and traditions of the Holy Temple, as well as the vibrancy, prominence, and essential role of these stones in the worship of God.
